Chances are, everyone can relate to a time in their lives when “the magic stopped”… Maybe you were in a relationship that fizzled… Maybe it was a spectacular job that suddenly became uninteresting when a new leader walked in the office… Or maybe it was a group of friends who became your life-line until something went astray.

Well, today we’re exploring what happens when the magic ends – and how “magic” is created in the first place…

For the sake of today’s discussion, we’re going to talk about 3 areas where the magic most typically happens… Relationships, your career, and social media.

Now, everyone out there at one time or another, has experienced “Puppy Love.” C’mon – What do they say love is? lol! Yup! BLIND! Why is that? It’s because of the “magic” that’s created when puppy love begins! We’re talking about the formula that happens when you fall in love with a person, a place, a food, a company – There’s “magic” there!

So – what’s the formula?

Well – first of all, you need 3 things… A magician, an audience and of course, chemistry.

Relationships:
When it comes to creating magic in a relationship, someone has to be the “magician”… If it’s the woman – she’s captivating, she’s alluring, she knows how to “cast a spell” on the object of her affection. If it’s the man – he pursues her, he’s loving, and he’s careful with her heart. To be honest, it doesn’t matter where you are – you can always sense the people in the room who know how to “cast a spell”… They’re the ones who everyone is automatically attracted to – sometimes, without even trying!

But what happens when you wake up one day and you realize the magic from your friendship/relationship is gone? What do you do?

Well, as a magician, you have the option to “re-cast” your spell (if you wish). Don’t listen to the people who say, “Sooner or later, the honeymoon ends…” It’s not true! You can have magic every day in your relationship! The trick is, you have to figure out how to continually cast your spell. You have to do your part to make yourself desirable. And when you do that, you’re ensuring your partner will never stop pursuing you.

Now – What happens if the audience isn’t responsive?

Business/Career:
If the audience doesn’t “engage” in whatever the magician is trying to create, it means the customers are no longer entranced by the magician. So, whose responsibility is it? It’s it the audience’s responsibility to engage – or is it the magician’s responsibility to captivate?

When you meet someone for the first time, they say it takes less than 5 minutes to determine if you’re connecting with that person or not. It’s because each of us either have “chemistry” with someone you meet – or you don’t. And when you blame the ‘lack of chemistry’ on the audience, you’re placing the blame in the wrong location.

And it’s actually unkind of you to believe you have to have the same chemistry with everybody! It’s just not true! It doesn’t matter how charming, or how fascinating, or how attractive you are – There will always be people who don’t possess your same level of chemistry.

But if you’re part of the audience and you decide that you no longer wish to follow the magicians you’ve been following, you can either stick around and be frustrated that “the magic’s gone” – or you can find a new magician who has the chemistry you’ve been searching for.

Maybe you had some “magic” with a previous employer or an organization you used to follow… Perhaps you had a direct supervisor whom you enjoyed immensely! They understood you, they were a great leader, and somehow, they made work ‘fun’. What happens when that person transfers, gets promoted or retires, and they’re replaced by someone whose chemistry is completely different than yours?

Well, you can keep trying to ‘re-create’ the magic – but when a new leader comes into your organization who doesn’t share your chemistry, it’s time to do some soul searching and consider why you took your job in the first place…

Ask yourself, what are my priorities? Does this company still espouse my same values? And is this new person now in my life to help me grow? Or is it time to find the magic somewhere else?

The good news is, you have options.

1.     You can commit to staying with the organization and do whatever it takes to ‘get the magic back’….
2.     You can stick around, and ‘wait it out’ to see if that new person leaves or the magic comes back…
3.     You can make the decision to leave and look for new chemistry somewhere else

Bottom line – You can’t force magic on anyone. It either works, or it doesn’t. And it doesn’t matter how long it lasts – as long as you’re willing to understand magic/chemistry for what it is, you can make magic happen whenever, and wherever the right chemistry exists.

Social Media:
Now, in a much more tangible sense, magic is easily displayed in your social media. When you’re trying to attract more people to your social media profile, you’re trying to create magic. You’re honing your spells, you’re working out ways to attract your audience, and you’re looking for those who share your same chemistry.

If you’re not able to grow your social media platforms, it means you may need to adjust your spells, or try something new in order to attract a different audience.

This kind of magic occasionally looks like an “overnight success” – but the truth is, social media magic usually take YEARS to perfect. It’s not something that comes out of the blue – it comes from many, many months of trial and error.

Most of the time, if you see yourself in a place of rapid growth, it means you’ve stumbled on to the magic your audience wants to see! Ask yourself what you did to make that specific kind of magic happen… Consider how the chemistry may have changed in your favor… And embrace whatever it is that you’ve created! Your skills as a magician have improved – and the growth of your audience is proof!
