I love what Cinderella said…
“The right kind of shoes can change your life.”
But the truth is, it’s not just your shoes that are holding you back.
Let’s say you’re in the “wrong shoes” in your work-life… Perhaps you don’t like the role you play… Or maybe you feel kind of “stuck” and maybe even “trapped” in your current job because it pays well – but you’re not fulfilled. Or maybe you know you’re in the wrong industry – it doesn’t make your soul sing – but you think you might be too old to change careers at this point in life.
All of these things are reasons for why women stay in jobs they don’t love, doing things they don’t enjoy, and putting off their true purpose for life. Trust me – I’ve been there. It’s not easy to leave a job that pays well, even if deep-down you know you were meant for more.
In cases like this, I always advise women to take a breather. Get away from whatever your “normal life” looks like – and get in a quiet space, alone. Draw a line on a piece of paper and use it as your basis point. Then, starting with your first job on the far left-hand side of the page, write down what you loved about every job you’ve ever had on the TOP SIDE of the line. Then, starting once again on the left-side moving towards the right – write down all the things you didn’t enjoy in every job you’ve ever had. That’s when the fun starts.
Pretty quickly, you should notice similarities on both sides of the line… and if you don’t, determine your priorities for what you enjoyed about your jobs on top, and what you didn’t enjoy about your jobs on the bottom.
This exercise can help you discover the reasons why you might not feel aligned in your current career – and whether or not it’s time to look for a “new pair of shoes.” For some women, they discover a whole new outlook on their current career path – and all they need is to replace a worn-out heel or buff away some of the scratches. For others, you might realize you’ve been wearing the wrong shoes for a very, very long time – and now’s the time to actually consider how a different pair might feel.
Once you try this exercise, let me know if you have any major epiphanies! I always love hearing how fellow Revolutionariez are rediscovering themselves – and how they move forward with purpose and resolve.
Just like Cinderella.
With Revolutionary Love,
